I had...so much fun with this piece. The sinking of the Titanic has been a huge special interest for me since I was a little kid, so I had a blast getting to illustrate and design this piece. I wanted to convey the grandiosity of the ship itself, but also the utterly disturbing, dark, and quiet terror that ensued after the ship actually sank.
The Hollywood film makes it all seem so well lit and dramatic, but the reality of the situation was far from that. The color on the title copy is meant to mimic the moon and act as almost a light source for the piece, while still keeping everything fairly dark. As you read through the timeline, you see the boat fade into black.
